Introduction A broken nose is one of the most common cases of visiting the ear, nose and throat clinic. This study was conducted to determine the value of routine radiography in the diagnosis of patients with nasal injuries.
Methods: In this study, for all patients who visited the emergency department of Imam Khomeini (RA) Ahvaz Hospital with nasal injuries, detailed clinical information was recorded and nasal radiographs were taken, and the patients were examined based on the results.
The results of the 174 patients studied, who had nasal fracture in the clinical examination, 74% (141 people) of them had positive radiological findings in favor of fracture and 19% (33 people) of them had negative radiological findings. Also, 26% of patients (48 people) had clear ecchymosis and 72% (126 people) had no peri-ocular ecchymosis.
Conclusion: Nasal radiography in patients with nasal trauma is not as useful as clinical examination, but it is recommended to confirm the diagnosis in clinically suspicious cases and for legal issues.
