Socio-demographic characteristics of youths who filed a complaint about cosmetic medical interventions. jmciri 2022; 39 (4) :241-246

Background: While medical cosmetic interventions are increasing, there has also been a rise in complaints around medical malpractice. The aim of this study was to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of youths who are dissatisfied with results of cosmetic medical intervention.
Methods: Statistical society of this descriptive-analytic study were 18-30 year olds youth who had experience of cosmetic medical interventions, and due to dissatisfaction of medical intervention, they filed a lawsuit in dispute resolution council. Through a complete enumeration survey method 95 files were studied. Data were collected by social-demographic questionnaire and analyzed by descriptive statistics via SPSS-24.
Results: 67.8% of participants were female and 32.2% were male; 70.7% were single and 29.3 were married. 49.1 had high socioeconomic status, 42.4% had moderate socioeconomic status and 8.5% had low socioeconomic status. Education level of most of youths (56.9%) in this study was bachelor degree. There was a significant relation between marital status and education level with dissatisfaction of medical intervention’s results (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The study showed that female sex, singles, people with bachelor degree and low socioeconomic status had the highest frequency among young plaintiffs of medical malpractice. Marital status and educational attainment had significant relationship with filing complaint about medical malpractice in cosmetic field.
